Witnessed by Her Excellency, Ms. Hou Yanqi, Hebei University of Economics and Business (HUEB) and Kathmandu University (KU) renewed via video link their cooperation agreement of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University (CIKU) on November 24. President Prof. Liu Bing and Vice President Prof. He Zhiqiang from HUEB, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bhola Thapa and Registrar, Prof. Subodh Sharma from KU attended the virtual meeting.
Her Excellency, Ambassador Hou Yanqi warmly congratulated the two universities on renewing the cooperation agreement. She pointed that the friendship between China and Nepal has become more and more deeply rooted in the hearts of Chinese and Nepalese people. Since the establishment of CIKU in 2007, CIKU has achieved great successes in spreading Chinese culture and promoting Chinese language. The CIKU has become a microcosm of the vigorous development of China-Nepal humanities exchanges. She hoped that the two universities will take this signing as an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation and contribute to the building of a China-Nepal community of shared future.
Both President Liu Bing and VC Bhola Thapa expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and Ambassador Hou Yanqi for their support and assistance to the Confucius Institute.
Prof. Liu Bing pointed out that HUEB will save no efforts to work with KU to implement the “Belt and Road” education cooperation initiative and make more contributions to the promotion of cultural exchanges and people-to-people communication between China and Nepal.
Prof. Bhola Thapa said that Kathmandu University will work hard to implement the signed cooperation agreement and let Nepalese Chinese teaching embark on a path of sustainable development.
The CIKU , the first CI established overseas by a university from Hebei, was co-founded by HUEB and KU in 2007.It has made outstanding achievements in Chinese language promotion, cultural exchanges, and characteristic development. In 2018, Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University was awarded the title of " Confucius Institute of the Year" at the Confucius Institute Conference.
